Stoddard Square: The thief ran off towards Elderslie golf course.
By Jennifer Black
AN ELDERSLIE pensioner was robbed of her handbag in a second attack in the village in a fortnight.
Police believe that the robbery in Stoddard Square last Tuesday, April 6, is linked to a similar attack in the village's Lexwell Avenue two weeks before.
Both attacks happened around 11.45am and on both occasions the ladies' handbags were stolen.
The 65-year-old was walking through the square last Tuesday when she was attacked from behind.
The man grabbed her handbag and after a struggle the strap broke and the victim fell back and hit her head on the ground.
The robber ran off towards the lane that runs alongside Elderslie Golf Club, where her empty bag was later found.
It is thought around £100 was stolen.
He was described as slim, around 5ft8 and was wearing a black and white hooded top.
The woman did not require any hospital care but was said to be shaken and is recovering at home.
On Tuesday March 23, a 69-year -old woman suffered a broken wrist as she was robbed of her handbag and pushed into the ground, in nearby Lexwell Avenue.
She described the man as white, tall, skinny and wearing a grey hooded tracksuit.
Anyone with information is asked to contact detective Kevin Browne at Johnstone CID on 01505 404000.

This is really distrubing that a man is on the loose robbing pensioners - how cowardly! I hope the police catch him before anyone else is seriously hurt.

It's a disgrace that a young man could even dream of doing this. How cowardly, to target pensioners.
He should get a job and work like a real man instead of trying to rob others of what they have worked for.

Some people are horrible - to steal from pensioners what is really going through their heads? must be so drugged up that their brain cells have all gone and they think this is acceptable. Shocking.

It's disgusting. These women are about the same age as my mum and the thoughts of her walking down to the shop to get her messages and being robbed on the way back is scary. We need to do something about this. POolice and trying their best, it's not them that's at fault. Time to get more programmes to keep young people from becomming neds.
