STUNNING: Nicola is a aiming for top 10 place.

By Jennifer Black

A KILBARCHAN beauty is aiming to be crowned this year's Miss Scotland.

Gorgeous Nicola Mimnagh, 24, has beaten off competition from thousands of other entries and is flying the flag for Renfrewshire as she fights to become Scotland's number one beauty queen.

Nicola has been featured in the national media every day since Wednesday (April 21) and is relying on people to support her - and vote - to keep her in the competition.

She must receive more votes than her rivals every day to be in with a chance of getting to the final 10, which will be revealed on Friday.

Nicola has been modelling since she graduated from university three years ago and her job has taken her around the world including Dubai, Milan and London.

She said: "I love [modelling], I really enjoy it.

"It's totally different from any other job - and getting to travel is amazing."

The Politics and Business graduate would like to use her degree to help encourage people to vote and get involved with politics.

Nicola told the Gazette that she is really enjoying the Miss Scotland experience.

She said: "It's really exciting, I am really happy to get this far - but to get to the final 10 would be great.

"I want to make the people of Renfrewshire proud and put the area on the map."

Joining Nicola in the contest had been another Renfrewshire stunner, who made it to the top 30 of the nationwide contest before she was knocked out.

Elderslie girl, Cora Buchanan, was unfortunately elimiated from the contest on Friday as the girls are whittled down.

She admitted to the Gazette that she is disappointed that she didn't make it further in the competition.

Cora added: "I would like to thank everyone for their support.

"I didn't expect to get into the top 10, but thought I would do better than round two."

However, just as the Gazette went to press, a delighted Cora was unveiled as the winner of Miss Earth Renfrewshire.

She will now go on to represent the region in the grand national final in Blackpool in September and try to win the national title.

If Cora is crowned Miss Earth she will get to travel and work worldwide as spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and a host of other environmental groups.
