ScotRail have announced they are adding an extra service to call through Howwood.

The 8.34am service from Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour will call additionally at Howwood from December 12, but Community Council Secretary Grace Weir feels it will not make a great deal of difference to an area where public transport is already scarce.

She told the Gazette: "Any extra services we can get, the better but it would have been more helpful if it had been going to Glasgow and not the other way round."

There is only one train per hour into the city at the moment and since Stagecoach cut back bus services in May, peak-time travel is difficult for those in the town who are not car-owners.

She added: "Stagecoach took these services off and have never replaced them, we only have one bus at 6.25am and one at 7.45am during rush-hour for people who work in Glasgow."
