Almost 300 guests enjoyed an evening of entertainment to kick off the celebrations of the 40th Anniversary of Bishopton Gala Day.

Amongst the guests who attended Erskine Bridge Hotel on Saturday 9th June were, Tom Bradford, who was part of the original organising committee in 1973, 26 former Bishopton Princesses and the 2012 Bishopton Princess Sara Uslu.

Guests were entertained by pipers from the Bagshot and Bathgate pipe band, violinist Emma Henderson, singer Paul Ross, Splash Productions and The Reel Fling ceilidh band.

A special presentation of flowers was made to villagers' Jean Gilchrist and Anna McArthur who have attended every gala day since it started.

Aside from enjoying a special meal, guests also had the opportunity to taste goodies from a giant chocolate fountain and youngsters even had a bouncy castle to play on.

There was great support for the raffle too and a huge selections of raffle prizes, donated by local businesses. Prizes included a bike, barbeque, garden furniture, whisky, wine and numerous gift vouchers.

This year's gala day is on Saturday 16th June in the village field. Gates open at noon and the official opening is at 12.45 pm by Bishopton Princess Sara Uslu.

Ronnie Dukes, Chairman, Bishopton Week Group said,"It was a privilege to host the 40th Anniversary Bishopton Day Dinner Dance.

Bishopton Week Group is indebted to many people and organisations that supported the function.

I would like to give a special mention to Calum McLeod, who co-ordinated the function. Also to Ina Eadie who looked after the guest list and Margaret Donaldson who made the table decorations.

The Local Area Committee of Renfrewshire Council and the staff of Erskine Bridge Hotel also deserve a special mention too.

It was a great start to a week of festivities and a fitting tribute to celebrate 40 years of Bishopton Day."
