Police had been searching for Greenock man Edward Hendry since his disappearance on Friday, December 7 and although formal identification has still to take place, the body is believed to be that of a 36-year-old.

He was discovered after officers from Strathclyde Police mountain rescue team found his body following an organised search near Chapel Farm, Kilmacolm, on Thursday , January 3 around 1pm.

Mr Hendry, from MacBeth Road, was last seen near The Haven, an alcoholic and addiction treatment facility in Horsecraigs, Kilmacolm.

Police say a post-mortem will take place in due course. There appear to be no suspicious circumstances.

His family have since been informed and a full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
