Pint-sized pupils were inspired by children’s favourite book The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch.
Lighthouse keeper Mr Grinling tucks in to a delicious lunch every day after a busy morning cleaning and polishing the light to make sure it shines brightly at night.
The youngsters treated their mums and dads to a feast of sandwiches, iced sea biscuits decorated with anchors, peach surprise and fruit kebabs.
The cafe was also linked to a wider project where the children learned about lighthouses and created 3D models, including electric lights.
The day ended on a high note with a sea shanty sing-along.
Acting deputy head teacher Lynne McGugan said: “The children had all read the story. It’s all about healthy eating and the children ran a cafe for parents.
“It was very well attended by parents. There were two sittings – 30 in one class and 15 in the another.” “Children also learned about the world of work by running the cafe like a proper business as part of an enterprise project.” There was even a chef, sandwich, drinks and dessert waiter who took orders and served up.
Lynne said: “It was a fantastic success and it had elements of an enterprise project and the pupils leaned how a real business would operate.
“They also learned about lighthouses, electricity and healthy eating and it was well attended. We have very positive comments from parents.” They also raked in a profit of £40 and donated the cash to Ardgowan Hospice.
