The Scottish SPCA was alerted on Friday morning (August 29) when a member of the public discovered the birds next to the B786 in Howwood.
Now the animal welfare charity is appealing for information to who the birds might belong to.
The cockerels are now in the care of the Scottish SPCA’s centres in Hamilton and Dumbarton.
Amy Robb, an animal rescue officer for the SPCA said: “The cockerels were huddled together very close to the road and it’s lucky they weren’t hit by a car.
“I asked around farms in the area and no-one recognised the birds or knew who they belonged to.
“Other than being frightened, all the cockerels are in good condition and seem much happier now that they’re in our care.
“We’ll look after the birds until we can find them all permanent new homes.” Anyone with information is being urged to contact the Scottish SPCA Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
