Renfrew Development Trust I was very happy to attend the Renfrew Development Trust session in the Renfrew Town Hall last week. Mr Foster Evans who is leading this work is doing a great job in harnessing ideas from the town on projects that may be progressed. There was a healthy turnout from local people and local groups. Ideas for improvement include promotional events, greater use of local heritage, park enhancement, community transfer of unused buildings, better public toilets and greater sharing of local information. These were just some of the issues raised.

Glasgow Airport Glasgow Airport has made a positive start to the year after more than 436,000 passengers travelled through its doors in January 2014, up 6% on the same period last year.

Glasgow Airport is displaying exactly how an organisation can have sustainable growth even during tough financial times.

The airport has consistently managed to attract holiday makers through their doors; this is no doubt down to the excellent service they offer and the high levels of care that they provide for their customers.

I am pleased to see that the hard work of the airport management has paid off, and I have no doubt this will continue to pay-off throughout the year.

Glasgow Airport will be the gateway to the 2014 Commonwealth Games and will contribute massively to the lasting legacy of Scotland’s biggest ever sporting event.

Labour undermines Clean Renfrewshire I am disappointed the Labour Administration of Renfrewshire Council are reducing environmental services whilst increasing special uplift charges in Renfrewshire.

At the 2014 budget meeting of Renfrewshire Council, the Labour Administration removed funds from environmental services and increased special uplift charges from £20 to £30 (a 50% increase) - This whilst Renfrewshire has failed to meet its recycling targets since Labour took over the council. The cuts to Streetscene – who are the people responsible for keeping our roads and pavements tidy – follows on from a £600,000 cut in their budget last year.

I fully backed the Clean Renfrewshire Campaign, which was working well, but is now being undermined by the council leadership. Local community groups and individuals previously got involved to help clean up the environment, but they will surely be discouraged by these environmental cuts which I believe will be visible in towns and villages across the county.
