Sometimes we move from one moment to the next without thinking too much and on occasion let little things that really shouldn’t matter get under our skin.

But every so often we’re stopped in our tracks and reminded just how quickly, cruelly and unexpectedly life can be taken away.

There was no better example when the full extent of last week’s tragedy in Linwood began to sink in.

Eilish Herron was a young woman on the cusp of a bright future when she was taken away in circumstances that nobody could have foreseen.

When the terrible news began to filter through to our office there was initially a feeling that it couldn’t be true but it wasn’t long before the tragedy was confirmed.

Over the course of the next few days there was a flood of sympathetic comments posted on our Facebook page and other social media sites.

People who did not know Eilish were moved to express their sadness and reach out in some way to the young lady’s family and friends.

Thousands posted kind words and condolences and a Facebook page set up in memory of Eilish quickly attracted more than 7,000 followers.

Nothing can be said or done that will dilute the pain and sorrow Eilish’s family are going through but this week her parents took time to pass on their gratitude to the many people who have passed on their condolences in the wake of the accident.

They also issued a statement expressing their concern for the elderly gentleman who was involved in the accident that resulted in the death of their daughter.

They deserve enormous respect for taking the time to let the driver know they bear no ill feeling towards him and recognise that what happened at the Asda petrol station on Wednesday afternoon was a genuine accident.

Many who knew Eilish have spoken of a talented, happy and bright young woman who had the world at her feet.

Like so many others across Renfrewshire and beyond, our hearts go out to the Herron family, the elderly driver involved in the accident as well as the many people who knew and admired Eilish and who are now having to come to terms with the loss of a treasured friend.
