She’s only three-years-old but in normal circumstances she would already be running around the house and getting up to the sort of mischief that keeps mums and dads on their toes from the moment they wake until they tuck their precious kids into bed at night.

It’s clear to see that mum has a bright and bubbly daughter who is no doubt just as capable of letting her curiosity get her into the occasional pickle as her brothers and sisters.

But it must have been an extra special moment when Suzanna took her first steps thanks to the prosthetic leg she now has fitted.

In years gone by the physical challenges tots like Suzanna would have to face in their life would certainly have held them back but it looks for all the world as though this inspiring little girl can go on to live a complete and happy life in spite of the difficulties she faces.

Her determination should act as an inspiration to us all.

Meanwhile, another local youngster featured in this week’s Gazette has already made a big impact on our readers with one particularly generous and humble chap deciding to donate a whopping £1,000 to help three-year-old Riley Lafferty get the special bike he hopes to unwrap on Christmas Day.

Riley’s family were genuinely astonished and delighted by such a wonderful gesture and who can blame them for shedding a tear or two when our reporter passed on the good news.

It’s been a testing time for many folk over recent years with austerity cuts and financial pressure being brought to bare on ordinary families the length and breadth of the country.

Perhaps that’s one reason why there was such a surge towards the Yes vote during last week’s referendum on Scottish independence, and in the wake of the vote it seems fair to say that even those how voted no still have an appetite for change in Scotland and across the rest of the United Kingdom.

But what has also emerged from the debate has been a willingness and desire for people to reach out to each other in touching ways that leave a lasting impression we can look back on with genuine pride.
