Renfrew FC co-manager Colin Clark praised his side’s battling qualities in the 2-0 win at Dunipace on Saturday as they strengthened their grip on top spot of the Central District First Division.

Frew stay four points clear of second-placed Wishaw after they also recorded a an away win at Neilston. However Wishaw have two games in hand.

Clark was delighted with the application of his side in less than ideal conditions .

He said: “We’re happy with the result. There wasn’t a lot of football played to be fair The conditions were very difficult.

“The pitch was really poor – it was really soft and it was always going to deteriorate as the game went on. It ended up a bit of shambles.

“The conditions were a real leveller, every pass was a problem.

“We had to try and consolidate where we are so to get the points when most teams would’ve had their games postponed was big for us.

“Regardless of the conditions I thought we controlled the game for the majority of the time.”

Frew are away again on Saturday, this time at St Roch’s, having already claimed victory over them at New Western Park earlier in the season.

Clark expects a tough fixture while he reserved praise for new signing Darren Jones, who scored in the Dunipace win. He also revealed he has no plans to add to his squad despite losing Chris Gilmour and Ross Campbell to work commitments for the foreseeable future.

He said: “St Roch’s will be a tough one. They’ve spent a bit of money so they’re obviously fancying themselves again. They were decent at our place but I thought we deserved the win that day.

“They have players who can hurt you so we will need to be on our game. It’s going to be another battle next week.

“We’ve lost a couple of players to work commitments recently. Chris Gilmour and Ross Campbell will be taking some time away from the club so we’re down to 18 players.

“We’ll leave it at that just now. We’ll go with what we’ve got, If something becomes available that can add to us we’ll look at it but it has to be right in terms of the player and finances. We added Darren Jones from Yoker Athletic. He has given us a different dimension up front. He has pace and which we probably didn’t have before, he took his goal on Saturday very well.”
