St Mirren West College Scotland 49 Dunfermline Reign 90

In the semi-final of the U18 men’s play-off cup, St Mirren squared up to old foes Dunfermline Reign.

Saints were victorious in two of their previous three matches with Reign this season, one of those victories was on the road to Scottish Cup glory.

It was Reign who started with more intensity and led 5-0 before Saints replied through a Colin Jackson lay-up.

However, Saints could not cope with the early energy of their opponents and lost quarter one 21-11.

In quartet two St Mirren continued to be wasteful in possession and did not score their first points until midway through the period.

Dunfermline increased their lead in the second quarter to 24-11.

Trailing by 23 points at the half, Saints had it all to do in the remaining two quarters.

The Paisley side scored the first two baskets via a determined Colin Jackson.

Dunfermline replied with a trio of three-point baskets to dampen the spirits of St Mirren. Reign also won the third quarter 19-13.

The young Buddies had a mammoth task in the final quarter if they wanted to reach the play-off final.

The Fife side played out the final quarter as they had the proceeding three with strong defence and clinical offence. The fourth quarter score was 24-14.

The final score was a 90-49 defeat for St Mirren, bringing an end to an eventful season where they won the Scottish Cup and finished third in the U18 National League.

Top scorers for Saints were Colin Jackson with 20 points and Alistair Mathieson with 9.
