Kelburne Hockey Club’s first team completed a domestic treble after claiming the National Champions Trophy at the National League Grand Finals.

The season-ending event took place at the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow and Kelburne prevailed in a thrilling final, eventually overcoming impressive Dundee side Grove Menzieshill 3-2.

Consequently, the Paisley side collect a domestic treble, including National League, Scottish Cup and National Champions Trophy.

They also take the top European qualification spot.

Kelburne broke the stalemate in the 25th minute.

Iain Scholefield’s pass found Ben Peterson bearing in on goal, the striker cleverly lifted the ball past Grove Menzieshill goalkeeper Leon Hayward to give his side the advantage But Grove Menzieshill were not ready to roll over and equalised shortly before half-time. The goal came courtesy of some fantastic individual skill from Lee Morton.

He baffled the Taysiders’ defence before finding the right corner with a precise low finish. However, the Dundonians responded strongly after the interval.

Their improvement was rewarded when Gavin Byers restored his side’s advantage in the 40th minute.

Byers glided into circle effortlessly to dispatch a shot that was deflected in off a Kelburne defender to make it 2-1.

With nine minutes to go, Grove Menzieshill were back on level terms after Paul Martin latched onto a superb through pass to bear down on goal – he then was able to coolly slot the ball past Kelburne ‘keeper Ben Rennie.

However a penalty corner award in the 65th minute brought the winning goal for Kelburne. Josh Cairns’ superb drag-flick flashed past Hayward into the top corner to wrap up a domestic treble.
