RENFREW drew 1-1 away at title rivals Wishaw on Saturday to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the Central District First Division.

The home side started the better but failed to create many clear cut chances.

It was Renfrew who carved out the first chance in the ninth minute through Darren Jones but he shot wide.

Neither goal was seriously troubled until the half-hour mark when Jones, on the stretch, couldn’t quite convert a neat Alain Kinney flick on.

Renfrew again came close when Jones rifled an effort from 30 yards just wide in first-half stoppage time.

Eventually the deadlock was broken when Kevin Grant took advantage of a loose ball in the 53rd minute to fire second-placed Wishaw in front.

Renfrew came forward more but it took until the 65th minute for them to create the opportunity that lead to the equaliser.

The home keeper pulled down Alain Kinney in the box with the striker picking himself up to convert the resulting penalty.

Renfrew now face four games in seven days which will go a long way to determining the teams which will win promotion to the Super League. Their first clash is tonight at relegation threatened St Anthony’s.

Frew’s upcoming ties are as follows: April 20 St. Anthony’s F.C (A) 18:45 April 23 Larkhall Thistle F.C (H) 14:00 April 25 Thorniewood United F.C (A) 18:45 April 27 Maryhill F.C (A) 18:45
