RENFREW FC have taken a big step towards an historic league title with three wins in the last week.

Following on form their 1-1 draw with title rivals Wishaw Frew have notched up wins over St Anthony’s, Larkhall Thistle and Thorniewood United to extend their lead at the top of the Central District First Division.

Wishaw, their closest challenger, earned two wins and a draw in their three games meaning Renfrew are now six points ahead of the Lanarkshire side with Wishaw having played a game more less.

Renfrew have four games to play and can extend their lead further when they travel to Maryhill tonight.

Wishaw have no midweek game so will have more time to prepare for a potential title decider on Saturday when the top two clash at New Western Park.

Two wins for Renfrew would mean Wishaw could only overtake them on goal difference and a solitary point for Frew in the last two games would seal wrap up the title.

On Monday evening, a second-half Alain Kinney goal was enough for Renfrew to take all three points from a trip to Thorniewood United.

Kinney was also on target in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Larkhall Thistle with Chris Zok and Jamie Benton also finding the net for Colin Clark and Martin Ferry’s men.

A Darren Jones double helped the New Western Park side to a 4-1 victory at St Anthony’s last Wednesday.

Kinney scoring again alongside and Gary McGarroch's strike also found the net.

Renfrew face Maryhill at Lochburn Park tonight (6.45pm) before their top-of-the-table clash with Wishaw at New Western Park on Saturday (2pm kick-off). A trip to St Roch’s and a home tie with Rossvale complete Frew’s fixtures with dates yet to be confirmed.
