JOHNSTONE Burgh crashed out of the Central League Cup after a 3-1 defeat to Rutherglen Glencairn at Keanie Park on Monday night.

Burgh were 3-0 down at half-time, Jonny McStay got a consolation in the second half.

There was better news in the league as a Jack Heron double gave Johnstone Burgh a 2-0 win over Lesmahagow at Keanie Park on Saturday.

After promotion from the Central District Second Division last season, Colin Smith and David Brolly’s men have been clear of any danger in mid-table for the bulk of the season, at one point threatening a late push for back-to-back promotions.

However recent defeats to Dunipace, Rossvale, Vale of Clyde and Neilston threatened to take some of the shine off a successful season in the Central District First Division.

But the Keanie Park side have responded with a 2-1 win over St Anthony’s and Saturday’s triumph over Lesmahagow.

Goals in each half from Heron gave them all three points.

The win puts Burgh sixth in the 14-team division and they can enjoy their final two league games with no pressure on them having secured their league status.
