ST MIRREN striker David Clarkson believes his double in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Livingston was the best brace he’s ever scored.

The former Motherwell striker put Saints in front in the first half with a volley after being set up by strike partner John Sutton.

Livi fought back and went in front in the second half before Lewis Morgan levelled for Saints.

With eight minutes to go Clarkson won the game with another eye catching volley from range.

The former Scotland international has netted nearly 100 goals in a well travelled career north and south of the border, but he insists he hasn’t scored two of that standard in one match.

He said: “I probably haven’t scored two as good as that in the same game. They were nearly identical goals.

“The first one was a great knock down by Sutty and I caught it sweet and its went in the corner.

“The second one it has fallen to me and I’ve caught it sweet again.”

Clarkson praised strike partner Sutton for his performance. The pair linked up well and continued their good pre-season form in Saints first competitive game of the season.

He added: “We’re linking up well which is good for the both of us, big Sutty was scoring in pre-season so I’m sure he’ll be among the goals soon.

“We played together at Motherwell, you never lose the way people play. That’s important for the boys coming in as well that we get to know the way each other plays.”

“The gaffer is trying to help us do that and develop that understanding.

“From playing with Sutty we have that understanding there.

“He’s an honest player and works hard, he’s great to play with. He brings a lot of experience to the team.”
