ST MIRREN winger Lewis Morgan insists the Buddies showed the character required for a successful season in Saturday’s 3-2 win at Livingston in the Betfred Cup.

The Saints started their League Cup campaign with a come from behind win at the Tony Macaroni Arena. They backed that up with a last gasp win over Ayr United on Tuesday night at the Paisley 2021 Stadium to top group G.

Morgan was one of Saints' stand out performers in both games and netted the second at Livi when his cross fortuitously ended up in the back of net.

Morgan believes the spirit Saints showed to win at Livi after falling behind in the second half bodes well for this season.

He said: “We had to grind it out.

“It wasn’t the performance we were looking for but that just shows the character we’ve got that we can dig out results.”

Morgan didn’t attempt to claim credit for his goal, conceding it was a cross for John Sutton.

Despite being one of St Mirren’s better players on the day, Morgan believes there is more to come from him.

He added: “I was just trying to hang it up for Sutts.

“But when you’re positive and on the front foot breaks can go your way and just happy it hit the net to be honest. I did alright today.

“There is definitely more to come.

“I probably should’ve scored in the first half. I had a good run and probably should have finished it off so I’ll look at that.

“I’m happy with the way a played but happier with the result.”
