St Mirren suffered a 3-1 defeat at home to Queen of the South on Saturday.

Here's our man by man ratings.

1. Jamie Langfield..........................5

Could do little for all three goals as gaping spaces continued to appear in front of him.

2. Jason Naismith...........................5

One of several whose confidence looks shot at the moment. Use of the ball from right back was continually poor.

4. Andy Webster.............................4

A day to forget for the skipper. At fault for the second goal as Anderson skinned him on the right. Couldn’t get near Dobbie in the second half as the striker threatened to run riot. Suffered the ignominy of being subbed off to cheers from the home fans.

6. Gary MacKenzie.........................5

Powerless to stop Lyle and Dobbie at times but not the most fallible.

3. Gary Irvine...................................6

Another solid display despite being shifted to left back again. Saints need more players to show his determination.

16. Tom Walsh................................6

Scored a good goal and put in some dangerous crosses.

10. Stevie Mallan...........................5

Was pulling the strings during St Mirren’s bright start but game largely passed him by after that.

14. Kyle Hutton...............................5

Another whose confidence looks shot. Made no impression in the middle of the park.

17. Lewis Morgan...........................8

Didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. Always looking for the ball when others were hiding and his driving runs had Queens worried all afternoon.

20. Ryan Hardie............................6

Struggled to make an impact but was starved of service. His cross set up Walsh goal and he passed up a great headed chance at 2-1.

9. John Sutton.................................5

Link-up play wasn’t as sharp as it had been at Albion Rovers.

Subs

7. David Clarkson...........................4

Brought on with two goals required and Saints already looking beaten.

25. Lawrence Shankland.............4

No contribution of note, like Clarkson it was probably too late for him to have an influence.

5. Ben Gordon.................................4

On a hiding to nothing after replacing Webster after Dobbie had run him ragged.

Manager Alex Rae...........................................5

It was another difficult afternoon for Alex Rae as his St Mirren side crumbled after a positive start. Rae was at pains to point out that individual mistakes continue to cost his team goals, which was certainly true for the second and third goals.

But he has been fairly scathing in his criticism of the players when discussing performances post match in recent weeks. It may be time to change tact as a lot of players’ confidence looks to be at rock bottom. Several looked like they couldn’t wait to get rid of the ball on Saturday. It’s Rae’s job to give the players the confidence and belief required to perform and Lewis Morgan is the only player who appears to have sufficient measures of both right now.
