ST MIRREN manager Jack Ross is hopeful of completing more signings this week as he continues to piece together his Saints squad for next season.

Cammy Smith and Gary MacKenzie are the latest players to commit to the Buddies for next year, the pair signed two and one-year deals respectively on Monday.

They join Jack Baird, Adam Eckersley, Jamie Langfield and Josh Todd in having agreed contracts to stay in Paisley.

The Saints boss is waiting to hear from players he has made offers to, some who were with the club last year and others who were with other clubs, and he is hopeful of some positive news this week.

He said: “We could potentially have a couple more signings towards the end of the week depending how things go. It’s difficult to say for certainty just now, but hopefully we’ll have more players in this week.

“We have offers pending for players who were with us last season and offers pending for other players, it just depends if those players agree.”

One player Ross will be forced to be more patient with is Rory Loy.

The striker became a key part of Saints’ Championship revival last season after moving on loan from Dundee in January.

The 29-year-old netted seven goals in 17 appearance for the Buddies, including three in the last four games and the crucial strike against Hibs at Easter Road which meant Saints avoided a relegation play-off.

The former Falkirk man still has one year left on his Dundee contract and there remains uncertainty over the managerial post at Dens Park with Neil McCann having taken temporary charge after Paul Hartley was sacked.

Ross admits that any move for Loy is on hold until the striker learns if he will be in the plans of the next Dundee manager.

He said: “Rory is within the category of being out of our hands at the moment. He’s going back to Dundee, he knows our situation but until there is a time when he’s available there’s not a lot we can do.

“He did really well for us in his time here but it is very much out of our hands.”

Meanwhile Ross revealed he is confident of keeping Lewis Morgan at the St Mirren next season.

The winger has one year left on his Saints contract but the manager says discussions are ongoing about extending it. The 20-year-old had an impressive season at the Paisley 2021 Stadium that will no doubt have attracted interest from bigger clubs.

But Ross is confident Morgan will remain a St Mirren player next season.

He said: “I’ve been in discussions with Lewis for a couple of months now about potentially extending his contract. But he has other things to consider.

“But I’ve got a very close relationship with him, I speak to him regularly, I’ve spoken to him three or four times since the season finished. I understand his position and he understands ours, so I’m very much confident that he’ll be our player next season, beyond that I’m still confident we can get him to commit long term to the club.”
