Basketball Paisley star Chris Feeney’s form last season has impressed GB selectors after he was called up to the Great Britain under-16 squad that will travel to the Eurobasket tournament in Bulgaria.

Feeney is the only representative from a Scottish club to be selected for the squad that travel to Sofia for the event, which starts on August 10.

He has several appearances for Scotland already under his belt and showed he was comfortable stepping up a level again as one of the standout players in the GB under-16’s preparation games in France.

In three test games against France, Feeney was in the starting lineup for two and was the team’s best player in their final match, scoring 23 points to go along with seven rebounds in a 70-57 win for GB.

Head Coach James Vear will lead the squad, as GB are set to take on Portugal, Macedonia, Georgia, Kosovo and Luxembourg, who they will face in the opening game on Thursday, August 10.

He said: “We are happy to be able to pick our final 12 but it’s also difficult as we lose players who have been with us since the start of this process.

“We have had a good preparation phase which continues this weekend in Belgium, then another camp in the UK and an acclimatisation game vs Greece in Bulgaria.

“This is an exciting age group with a lot of talent and we need to continue to work hard in the short period we have left before the European Championships.”
