St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick went on a scouting mission recently to Valencia.

The Saints chief was invited by the club’s partners inspiresport, and their head of sales for Scotland Jed McCabe to their exclusive club Valencia CF in Spain.

There were a number of similarities between themselves and the Spanish giants.

Tony had the chance to watch several academy games including Valencia CF vs Villarreal CF U’14 and U18 games.

The Academy has produced great’s such as Spain and Manchester City’s David Silva, with seven players from the academy currently in their first team squad.

Fitzpatrick was introduced to Valencia CF first team left back Toni Lato who came through the academy and has been voted in the world’s best team for his age.

Tony had the chance to quiz Lato on what his patheay was to the Valencia CF first team.

Valencia CF legend Miguel Ángel Angulo, who is current chief scout for the first team took time to spend with Tony sharing the clubs philosophy and how they go about scouting the best players in Spain.

Tony also had the chance to chat with chiefs from American Academy, Next Gen who were on tour at Valencia CF.

Due to the link between St. Mirren and inspiresport the idea is for St. Mirren Academy and youth teams to go over to Valencia CF and test themselves against their peers at the same age group. Also for both clubs to build strong relations going forward.
