Renfrew co-manager Colin Clark hopes dropped points during the season do not come back to haunt his side as the race for automatic promotion rolls on.

Clark’s men wrapped up their league campaign three weeks ago but have faced an agonising wait to learn if they will clinch one of two automatic promotion spots that are still available – or have to go through the drama of the play-offs.

Irvine Meadow will overtake the New Western Park side if they beat Rutherglen Glencairn by more than a goal this Saturday, while Largs Thistle will take the other play-off spot if they win their last two games.

And Clark believes his troops will  have only themselves to blame if it all goes wrong.

He said: “If we don’t finish in the top four then it’ll be the first time we’re outside it. It would be really harsh, but things like that happen.

“We’re guilty of not having it tied up now with dropped points against [bottom of the league] Maryhill.

“We have exceeded our expectations whatever happens.”
