SUNDERLAND are expected to confirm the appointment of St Mirren boss Jack Ross as their new manager today.

Ross, 41, has been in talks with both Ipswich Town and Sunderland since Saints lifted the Ladbrokes Championship trophy and secured a spot in the Premiership next season.

But it is now understood the Black Cats have agreed terms with Ross and 'contracts are with the lawyers', according to new owner Stewart Donald.

However, St Mirren chairman Gordon Scott has said there has 'been no contact from Sunderland' and has branded the news as 'nonsense'.

The Buddies are understood to have offered Ross a better deal following interest from south of the border.

Ross would succeed Chris Coleman, who left Sunderland in April after they were relegated from the Championship.

It was their second successive relegation and the first time they have dropped to the third tier of English football in 30 years.
