St Mirren have boosted their squad as they prepare for life in the Scottish Premiership by bringing defender Paul McGinn back to the club.

McGinn, whose older brother Stephen is already a key player for the Buddies, joins on a two-year deal after leaving Partick Thistle.

The signing was announced just hours after Saints confirmed their manager Jack Ross has moved to Sunderland, with his assistant James Fowler joining him in the dugout at the Stadium of Light.

Talented full-back McGinn, 27, was a regular in the Partick team that suffered relegation from the top flight last season.

He was previously on St Mirren's books, along with younger brother John, but struggled to secure a first team place and was loaned out to Dumbarton and Queen's Park.

McGinn also played with midfield ace Stephen at Dundee and then moved to Chesterfield before returning to Scotland with Thistle.
