Kids from Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire were part of 32 boys and girls from St Cadoc’s Youth Club who set off for the Netherlands as the club’s youngest ever participants in an overseas football tournament.

A travelling party of 78 including coaches and parents flew to Eindhoven to take on teams from 15 other nations, including Germany, Spain and England, in a high standard international football tournament hosted by Dutch club and youth football masters SV Nevelo FC.

Of the two Under-8 teams and two Under-9 sides from the club who took part, three finished third and fourth, and one was runner-up to the Welsh.

Coach Paul Gallagher said: “They had the time of their life, as did their parents and coaches. The club ethos is to be inclusive and all of the children played at least seven games.

“Everybody felt it was a real privilege to give the children this experience. It was the youngest travelling party from St Cadoc’s and we like to think the first of many.”

The club has more than 850 children from across Renfrewshire, East renfrewshire and Glasgow playing football and netball every week.

Over 150 coaches make this possible and the club has celebrated its greatest season on the pitch and courts with an Under-19 Scottish Cup win, an Under-14 cup win and three newly-promoted league champions faring well.
