Johnstone Burgh manager Jamie McKim will be bringing in a number of trialists when the squad begin pre-season training this week.

Burgh have added no less than five fresh faces to the squad in the close season with forwards Sam Esplin and Kieron Magennis and defenders Darren Wilson and James Penders penning one year deals along with Ross Geddes who will be joining the side until September.

But despite the proactive steps taken by the gaffer to bolster their ranks with the aim of mounting a title challenge next season, McKim admits he is not yet satisfied and is still looking to bring in six more signings.

He said: “We start pre-season this week and we are going in with five new players and trialists coming along.

“We are still working on the squad as I am not entirely happy with what we have got, although we have been quite vigorous with signing people.

“We are only signing people we want and not just signing anybody. The guys we have brought in have been scouted properly and thought through.

“We could have easily filled our squad, but we have been thorough and picky to get what we want so far.

“We are delighted with what we have done in terms of signing players, but we need to do more.

“We have a couple of different trialists coming in from different junior clubs and one or two amateur clubs in our area. A couple are on fringe senior clubs as well and that is something we are looking to strengthen with.

“We want to fill squad to about 20 and at the moment we have 13 or 14, so we have about six spaces.”

Burgh, who have also added a fifth member of coaching staff, John Allan, kick off pre-season with a double session on Saturday in Largs.

And as the physical preparations for his first full season get underway, McKim has called on his players to prove they are worthy of a starting spot.

He added: “If guys are not pulling their weight, they will be replaced.”
