Thorn Athletic have announced six new signings as they gear up for a tilt at the Caledonian Premier League.

The Thorn have been in fine pre-season form beating West Championship side Neilston 4-0 and drawing 2-2 with Vale of Leven and Central Scottish AFL outfit Greenock HSFP.

And they have added a mix of youth and experience as they aim to go one better than their runners-up position last season.

Manager James Donnelly’s latest additions have brought his summer signings tally up to nine.

Former Clydebank captain Martin McInnes signs up after a spell out of the game.

And the defender, a double league cup winner who made more than 200 appearance for the Bankies as well enjoying title success at Neilston, is joined by five fellow new additions.

Former St Mirren and Elgin City midfielder Alan Muir, 31, joins from Ardrossan Winton Rovers in a player/coach role along with local lad David Orr who scored three in 17 appearances for the Winton last season.

The Gazette:

Alan Muir has also previously played for Arthurlie and Ardrossan.

Defender George Bonner, fresh from winning promotion to the new SJFA West Championship with Irvine Victoria, adds experience at the back.

Goalkeeper Cameron Craig, formerly of Johnstone Burgh U21s and Glenvale, comes on board to challenge for the number one jersey while 23-year-old defender Ian Patterson joins from Central Scotland Amateur outfit Bridgewater.

Meanwhile, the side is on the lookout for volunteers to help the club’s development.

This year marks the Johnstone-based club’s 20th anniversary and enthusiastic volunteers are needed for a variety of roles.

These include assisting with preparation for first team games, supporting players and coaches on match days, administration tasks such as completing referee assessment forms and website updates.
