ST Mirren manager Jack Ross insists the Buddies will take the game to league leaders Hibs at Easter Road on Saturday.

Neil Lennon's Hibees are three points clear at the top of the Championship and heavy favourites to win the league this season. Ross' Saints have had a contrasting start to the season and they are bottom of the table, still awaiting their first win.

However, despite the disparity between the teams in the league standings, Ross says he has prepared his side to attack when they take to the field in Leith.

He said: "Our approach this week has been to be on the front foot when we go there and attempt to win the game, it's not about sitting in and hoping for the best.

"It's about taking on the team that is top of the league in their own stadium and showing we are a good team."

Ross insists St Mirren's 2-1 success at Easter Road earlier this month in the IRN-BRU Cup when David Clarkson scored an 82nd minute winner in a 2-1 win, will give his squad a psychological boost as they prepare for Ross' second game in charge.

He said: "It's only a positive, to win there at any stage is a big achievement because it is a big club. They've had that feeling as recently as a few weeks ago.

"We've been trying to accentuate the positives with the players, for them to believe they are good players and believe they are a good team."

After two weeks without a match, St Mirren face two games in four days with the small matter of the Renfrewshire Derby at Cappielow on Tuesday night.

It is a game Ross only experienced once as a Saints player, but the importance of the clash is not lost on the 40-year-old.

He said: "I only played in the derby in a Renfrewshire Cup tie, that was my only experience of it as a game. I was well aware of the rivalry even when we were in different leagues, I'm well aware of what it means to people at the club and the fans.

"On a Tuesday night at Cappielow under the lights, it will be a brilliant fixture for us."
