St Mirren club captain Andy Webster says Saints need to be united in order to turn around their poor start to the season, after losing 1-0 to Dumbarton on Saturday.

Despite dominating territory and possession, the Buddies fell behind after a Jamie Langfield mistake allowed Garry Fleming to score the winner after 63 minutes.

And Webster, who is currently out injured and was commentating on the game for St Mirren TV, believes hard work can help turn their fortunes around.

He said: “I think when you take a step back and look at it we dominated the game. We should have scored goals and we are hugely disappointed with the goal we lost but that’s the predicament we are in at the minute.

“We will stick together, we will continue to work hard and things will definitely turn around.

“As bitterly disappointing as Saturday was we have to dust ourselves down and get back up.

“We hit the bar twice and I could go on about this and that, but ultimately when we go forward we have to score goals.

“I thought the defence was excellent, especially the two centre halves, so while it was a hugely disappointing result there are positives.”

Webster obviously feels for his manager given the circumstances the club finds itself in, without a win in 12 games.

He added: “I watched Eddie Howe [the Bournemouth manager] last week and he was asked if he felt sorry for David Moyes [the Sunderland manager] and he said no. So you don’t get sympathy and you don’t want it either.

“A lot of the time it’s patronising anyway. I’m sure the manager has big enough shoulders to deal with it.

“That kind of hard luck, let’s feel sorry for ourselves doesn’t apply. It’s all about working hard and things will turn around.”
