THERE was double cause for celebration at Renfrew FC’s New Western Park on Saturday.

The Junior side picked up their first victory of the league campaign as they edged out Irvine Victoria 1-0 thanks to a Sean Fitzharris strike.

And at half-time the club welcomed Renfrew Ladies FC who were recently crowned the SWFL Second Division South West Champions.

Renfrew FC’s co-manager Martin Ferry was delighted with the result and the performance of his side.

He said: “We played really well, and had enough chances to win three games, including a missed penalty.

“They [Irvine Victoria] had one chance all game and I lost count of how many chances we had.”

It’s been a frustrating time for the Frew, but this win takes off the bottom of the Super First Division and above Irvine Vics.

Ferry added: “It’s good when you’re knocking at the door and you eventually get through it.

“There’s been a few games this season where we’ve been knocking at the door and we’ve not got there and it’s come back to haunt us.”

The Frew next head to Holm Park to face Yoker Athletic, fellow co-manager Colin Clark’s former team. Kick-off for that game is at 2pm on Saturday.

After a strong start to the season the Whe-Ho have had a recent dip in form, losing their last five games in a row.

Renfrew Ladies team were full of joy at the break, after celebrating their unbeaten league campaign, winning all 18 fixtures and racking up a goal difference of +134.

The team were joined by some of Renfrew FC’s newest players, the girls’ under-11 side.
