St Mirren's dreams of winning the Irn-Bru Cup were ended at Fir Park today as Dundee United lifted the trophy.

United secured a 2-1 victory in the final thanks to a Thomas Mikkelsen header in the 75th minute.

Tony Andreu had put the Tangerines in front with a spectacular volley in the first half. But in a frantic end to the first period the Buddies hit back straight from kick off.

Gary Irvine set up Rory Loy who produced a fine finish.

The Paisley side had been cheered on throughout by a huge support of nearly 5,000, but they ultimately left dejected as Jack Ross' side couldn't claim success in the competition for the first time since 2005.
