FORMER St Mirren midfielder Aaron Mooy has become the most expensive Australian footballer of all-time after completing a move, believed to be worth £12m, to Huddersfield Town from Manchester City.
The 26-year-old joined City on a three-year deal last summer after impressing at parent club Melbourne City, but was immediately loaned out to the Terriers.
Mooy went on to play a key role in Huddersfield’s fairy tale season, which culminated in promotion after a dramatic play-off win against Reading at Wembley.
And, following Australia’s exit in the Confederations Cup this week, Mooy has confirmed he has made his loan move permanent.
Former Saints boss Danny Lennon brought Mooy to Paisley from Bolton in 2010, but his two years at the Buddies were largely unsuccessful. He made 21 appearances in black and white before moving to Western Sydney Wanderers.
Mooy said: “Now we’re in the Premier League, not only do I get to play at the highest level of football, but I continue to be part of a team that achieved something special.”
