OFF AND ON: Dougie Mitchell’s Renfrew have gone three weeks with no game.

FRUSTRATION is rife at Western Park as Renfrew face another anxious wait for the news their league clash with Girvan will go ahead this Saturday.

The Frew"s league campaign is being drained of much needed consistency and the hopes of maintaining their recent run of form may have been derailed by two consecutive weekends without a fixture.

Another week of widespread postponements tore through the country with Renfrew manager Dougie Mitchell bemoaning the lack of a free-flowing calendar.

He said: 'Unfortunately, the Shotts game was frozen off early on Saturday - there was two inches of snow there. That"s three weeks without a game now.

'I went down to our park and even without snow it was still unplayable.

'The weather for Saturday should be alright and we should have the pitch repaired this week.'

The weather precluded both the visit of Annbank and the trip to Shotts Bon Accord last Saturday leaving Mitchell with a team possibly short on match fitness.

Mitchell added: 'We tried to get a bounce game but we just couldn"t manage. It"s so difficult to get a pitch these days and can be hard to even get training on now.

'The boys are as fit as they"re going to be but they need match fitness and with Girvan playing last Saturday they might have an edge over us.

'It"s a massive game. The league is so tight that we can go sixth if the teams above us lose.'

The Frew go into Saturday"s clash just one point behind Girvan and with no new injury problems.

New signing Willie Stewart has been passed fit after a slight calf strain while sweeper Steven Jack could be out for the rest of the season with a groin injury that has kept him out of contention for the last three weeks.

Renfrew have also been without David Gordon in recent weeks but Dougie Mitchell is confident his side can cope and is not looking to bring anyone else to the club.
