Burgh hope for game on
LAST TIME OUT: Johnstone Burgh, pictured in action against Yoker last year, hope Keanie Park sees some play this Saturday.
JOHNSTONE Burgh boss George Walker has his fingers crossed the weather improves for Saturday, and insists his side is in a good frame of mind to defeat Yoker and move themselves further away from danger.
Burgh have not played in two weeks after their game against Cambuslang was scrapped - a decision which Walker conceded was the right one.
He said: 'The game was called off on Saturday morning. The turf was hard as rock - you couldn"t get a fork into the turf at all. The snow was cleared off but the pitch was still rock hard.
'When the team walked on to it about three quarters of the pitch was hard. You couldn"t play on it.'
Officials will again be called in to run the rule over Keanie Park as Burgh gear up for the visit of Yoker this weekend, and Walker is aware of the danger the Millburn men pose.
He said:'In terms of Yoker I"m expecting a good game. The last time we played them over there we got beat 2-0. They"re a workmanlike side but we"ll just have to take it in our stride.
'They are a very physical side, in defence, in midfield and attacking. They"ve got a few good players and they"re well organised. In this game you need grit and we need to install that into the boys.
'They"ve been training hard and they need to focus more in just going for it and get to the front more. We need to change our game a bit and hit the frontmen more.'
'We deserved a draw in the last game against them. We have a few young, fast, pacey guys in the team, especially up front, so we need to exploit Yoker"s lack of pace at the back and hopefully we can beat them in that way.
'We"ll play our usual attacking game to get results. We"ll just try to score more than Yoker at the end of the day.'
Burgh"s position in the league table also does not give Walker cause for worry as they look forward to games coming thick and fast.
He said: 'We"re not worried about our position at all. We hope to stabilise the team and relegation isn"t a worry at the moment.
'Yoker have a few more games in hand than us as do some other teams in the league.
'If we are at fourth bottom considering the financial situation with the club at the moment and some of the players that have left it"s a good place to be in.
'We"re still getting goals and creating chances, if we weren"t then that"s when I"d be worrying.
'I haven"t been paying attention to any of the results that other teams have been getting and I"ve just been looking at our results - we take one game at a time. As long as we can stay out of the bottom three then that"ll be fine.'
And Burgh may get another boost with the capture of an unnamed Danish trialist who has been training with the club. Walker said: 'He"s been training with us and he"s been looking good.
'Obviously we wont be putting him right into action. We"ll be trying him in a bounce game next week to see how good he is.'
