JOHNSTONE Burgh swapped league placings with Lesmahagow after going down 3-1 at Keanie Park.

Burgh came into this game knowing a win would see them steer further clear of relegation worries, after seeing teams around them gain points and places a fortnight ago as they sat idle.

It all looked to be going well, as Colin Smith fired into the net from a Willie Stewart set-up.

However, the referee ruled Smith to be in an offside position.

Smith did eventually have the ball in the net legitimately early in the second half, bundling in after the visiting keeper flapped at a Gordon Chalmers corner to bring the scores level at 1-1.

Lesmahagow regained the lead soon after, before Burgh keeper Fraser Wilson was red carded for handling outside of his area.

A killer third goal sealed the win for Gow as Burgh pushed forward, and the Johnstone side now sit in the perilous second bottom position only one point above last place Benburb.

Burgh assistant boss Eddie McKim said: 'The first goal didn"t look offside, and if that was given it could have changed the game.

'We really need to start picking up points against teams around us.'

l On Saturday, Johnstone host runaway leaders Rutherglen Glencairn at Keanie Park, kick-off 2pm.
