Thornliewood Utd 2 Johnstone Burgh 2 (Burgh win 5-4 on pens)
JOHNSTONE Burgh squeezed through to the second round of the Central League Cup after a dramatic comeback against Thornliewood United.
Burgh were 2-0 down after 85 minutes and looked to be going tumbling out of the competition until they pulled it back to 2-2 in the last five minutes.
Smith and McCreadie were the goal heroes which forced a nervy penalty shoot-out.
George Walker"s men made the best start possible with Wilson saving United"s first penalty.
The Johnstone side then converted all of their spot-kicks to snatch a 5-4 win on penalties.
Chuffed gaffer Walker couldn"t believe his eyes but praised his charges for their spirit and determination.
He said: 'Well it was 2-0 and we managed to pull it back in the last five minutes so I was delighted with the game.
'The boys played really well and deserve all the credit.
'But the lads have set themselves a standard now and if they continue to play the same in the future, they could go on to win a lot of games. But yes, I"m delighted with the result.'
Still suffering from ligament injuries, both Perry and Brolly were unable to compete in Saturday"s match.
Walker thinks he"ll be able to reply on one of his stars coming back for league and cup fixture schedule but fears the other could be out of action for much longer.
He added: 'Hopefully Brolly will be back a week on Saturday but Perry could be out for the rest of the season which is obviously a bit disappointment with all the games we still need to play.'
Tonight (Wednesday) will see Burgh play against Vale of Leven.
In preparation for the game, George explained that training will be held this week and then the team will be receiving a well deserved break.
He said: 'There"s no games this week in the junior league as it"s the Easter weekend.
'So the boys will get Saturday and Monday off but will be back in on Wednesday.'
