NOT JUMPING THE GUN: Renfrew assistant Colin Clark insists in-form striker Matt McLean is happy playing every week, scoring goals - and will not move

RENFREW assistant Colin Clark claimed the club will have to sell before they can buy - but was adamant the Frew would hold on to their best assets.

The club are targeting a few players to bolster their first-team for the second half of the season with a midfielder, a left-sided full-back and a defender manager Dougie Mitchell's main priorities.

But Clark insisted they will need to off load a couple of players from the squad if they want to bring in any new faces without sacrificing their top players.

He said: "We are looking for new players, but there has

been no movement at the moment.

"We are looking for a left-sided player, a defender and a midfielder.

"If we get one out of the three that would be a bonus. But it is quite difficult to get players in because there is not a lot of money at the club.

"We would probably need to sell before we could bring in anyone to the side, but we wouldn't sell players who are playing."

One man who the Frew are desperate to keep a hold of is Matthew McLean, who has reached the top of the scoring charts in the Super League First Division.

And Clark revealed the on-form striker, who has been an invaluable source of goals this season, is more than happy to stay at Western Park.

He added: "Bigger teams will be looking at Matthew because he is the top scorer in the division.

"But we wouldn't want to lose a player of that quality and the goals that he brings to the side.

"We have improved his terms and we certainly want to keep him at the club.

"However, if the right move came along and it was the right move for Matthew then we would have to look at it.

"But he his happy at Renfrew because he is enjoying his football and playing every

week.

"He was at Arthurlie and not getting a game, so he is happy playing every week."

The Frew are set to play Dalry away on Saturday (kick off at 1.45pm).

However, with the winter weather taking its toll on football across the country at the moment, Clark reckons it is unlikely the game will go ahead.

Clark added: "Dalry have had problems with their pitch all season and the only way the game may be able to go ahead is if they play it at Troon, but we have had no notification of that."
