VETERAN defender Neil Shearer is undecided on whether he will stay at Renfrew next season.

The 36-year-old Western Park favourite admits he will make up his mind in the next fortnight about his future.

But he insisted if he does leave the Frew, who he joined from Morton over a decade ago, he will give up football altogether.

The skipper's decision on his future may hang in the balance, but Shearer has loved every minute of his time at Western Park

During his long spell at the club he has picked up a treasured Scottish Junior Cup medal.

He told Gazette Sport: "I don't think I'm going anywhere else, but I've not decided what I'm doing yet. I will have some time off for a few weeks and see what happens after that.

"I have enjoyed my time at Renfrew, they are a club close to my heart.

"It has been really good and I have had a few ups and downs. But that's life at Renfrew, so I can't complain.

"Obviously it was great when we won the Scottish Junior Cup and I have played with a lot of terrific guys over the years and it's always a pleasure coming here.

"Unfortunately, I will have finished my time when the club move to the new stadium.

"But I have had a great time with Renfrew and I have many happy memories.

"If I didn't enjoy it I wouldn't be playing at this stage of my career."

Shearer has been delighted with Renfrew's top four finish to the campaign.

He said: "The last league game against Whitletts wasn't the best but it has been a cracking season to be fair. It could have been a bit better towards the end but it's been a good season.

"We had a very poor start to the season but since Christmas we have done well.

"We were a bit disappointed not to be in the top three but finishing fourth has been good progress."

Whether Shearer is playing in a Renfrew strip or not, he hopes Dougie Mitchell's men can continue their progress and reach the Super Premier League next season.

He said: "If I do play on at Renfrew, I will be playing to win and not just make up the numbers.

"Hopefully next year the team will develop and go on to the next stage which is promotion or the play-offs at least."
