DROP FIGHT GOES TO WIRE
RENFREW go into their final game of the season without a victory in six matches and desperately needing points if they are to avoid relegation.
In recent seasons, teams with 31 points had done enough to stay up.
However, the league is much tighter this season and it seems that the 33 points Renfrew have already amassed may not be enough to keep them up.
This worry is in stark contrast to where the team were just over a month ago
when they were challenging for third place in the Super Preimer League.
However, since then a fixture pile-up and the inability to kill teams off have seen Renfrew slip down to ninth in the table and they are now fighting for their lives.
Assistant manager Colin Clark explained that even though some performances may have been impressive, they have failed to pick up vital points.
He said: "It's a results business and we've not been getting enough of them."
Clark also pointed to the fixture congestion which has seen his team play nine games in just over three weeks.
He said: "The match secretary has a hard job but he has murdered us."
The last time Renfrew met Girvan was at the beginning of the season when Renfrew won 3-2, however, that was at
the start of September when the players were fresh and Clark accepts that things have changed since then.
He added: "We have a few players struggling so we are going to need to patch a few folk up and ask them to do a job for the last time this season."
The final week of the season sees a relegation dogfight as Kilwinning Rangers host fellow strugglers Cumbernauld United.
Renfrew take on Girvan away on Saturday, kick-off 2pm, for their last game of the season.
