JOHNSTONE Burgh manager George Walker insists he is pleased the way his squad is shaping up as they prepare for their first game of the season away to Stonehouse Violet.

Burgh have been given just two games at Keanie Park in their first six matches and the first will be against Blantyre Victoria, the side they were relegated with last season.

Walker is under no illusions that the first set of fixtures will be tough, but he is confident his side can pick up the points after impressing him and coach Mark Cameron.

The former Arthurlie boss has been assisting the club during pre-season as coaches Eddie McKim and Raymond Fallon are on holiday.

He told Gazette Sport: "The players have come back to training and have been impressive.

"They are all in the right frame of mind and want to do well next season. Looking at the games we face, it is not an easy start for us, but we are confident we can make the right start. The team are good enough and we will not be taking any games lightly, we will need to be at our best to win every one.

"We have been working hard on the fitness side of things and my friend Mark Cameron has come in to help the club out as Eddie and Raymond are on holiday.

"He has done a lot of hard work and is making sure things are ticking over, so things are looking good."

"Burgh's league campaign starts on August 13 at 2pm when they face Stonehouse Violet.

The first game at Keanie Park is on August 20 at 2pm against Blantyre Victoria. The Keanie Park club have also been given a tough draw in the League Cup where they host Greenock Juniors on July 27 and then visit Vale of Leven three days later. Port Glasgow will then travel to Keanie Park on August 3 and the last game before the big kick-off will see Burgh travel to face Renfew on August 6.
