McLEAN: I'M GRATEFUL TO RENFREW
MATT McLean last week left Renfrew for Kilbirnie Ladeside - but he has thanked the Western Park club for helping him make his mark in Junior football.
The prolific striker earned a move to the Super Premier League club after enjoying two impressive seasons at the Frew.
McLean admitted he felt he needed to swap Renfrew for Ayrshire for a new challenge. But he thanked the coaching staff at the club for giving him a chance to shine in the Super First Division.
He said: "Things had maybe become a little bit stale at Renfrew and I felt like I needed a new challenge to get the best out of me.
"The coaches really gave me the confidence to believe in myself at Junior level. They were really great with me from the moment I signed and they were a big help to me when I wasn't sure of myself.
"I really enjoyed my time at Renfrew and I'm pleased that I won't be leaving under a bad cloud or with any bad blood.
"I was sure to keep the club in the loop with what I was doing and when I told Colin Clark I was going to join and Renfrew wished me all the best. I feel like I owe them for their help."
McLean has had an enviable goal-scoring record at Renfrew and notched up 35 goals in two season during his stay at the First Division side.
McLean was proud of his scoring record but reckons he could have added more
to his impressive tally.
He added: "My first season with Renfrew was really my first season in Junior football and I managed to score 20 goals. My second was maybe not as good but with 15 goals I managed to win top goal scorer the two years I was there.
"Maybe it could be said that I could have scored more goals but I was reasonably pleased with my tallies.
McLean is now praying Tommy Bryce's men don't land Renfrew in any of the cup competitions.
He said: "I just hope we don't get them in the cup, I wouldn't want to come back have to put them out."
