JOHNSTONE Burgh secured their third league win of the season in only their seventh game of their stop-start campaign.

And Keanie Park assistant Eddie McKim praised the Johnstone Burgh players for getting back to winning ways against Newmains after so many setbacks this season.

There was no sign of rustiness from the Reds as goals from Colin Smith, Chris Wozencroft, far right, Kevin McGlinchey and Curtis Rose sealed the points against United.

And the Johnstone Burgh number two was delighted with his side's reaction.

He told Gazette Sport: "It was great to be back on the pitch again and competing with our opponents.

"There is always a risk of players being rusty after not playing for a few weeks, but credit to the boys, they were brilliant.

"We played some very good football at times and were always in control.

"It could have been more than four had their keeper not made some great stops."

Thanks to a number of postponements in the Central District Second Division caused by the weather and teams on Emirates Junior Cup duty, the Burgh moved up to sixth in the league.

However, McKim still believes there is a long road ahead this season.

He said: "We won't get carried away, it is a starting point for us, we need to build on this week on week."

Weather permitting, Johnstone Burgh take on fourth-placed Lesmahagow, who have only lost one league game this season.
