JOHNSTONE Burgh’s fate was finally sealed this weekend as relegation was confirmed but assistant Eddie McKim insists there is still plenty to play for in the closing weeks of the season.

Results elsewhere counted against the Keanie Park side as they battled to a 1-1 draw at home to Bellshill and, despite admitting their relegation was deserved, McKim believes his side still have a lot to prove.

He said: “Saturday was a big blow. It became apparent in recent weeks that we weren’t going to get out of this situation which is a shame because we have played well at times but not managed to pick up the victory.

“We should have beaten Bellshill but that just sums up our season.

“Their keeper had looked a bit wobbly throughout the match but somehow managed to pull off a wonder save in the final minute of stoppage time to keep the teams level.

“Obviously we didn’t know the other scores at the time but they seem to have went against us and that’s that.

“Unfortunately we are relegated and unable to rectify it but the boys can now play without pressure and show the talent that they produce in training.

“We now go back in and bid to not finish the season bottom of the league.

“We still have Glasgow Perthshire to play and hopefully we can beat them and finish the season strongly.” With McKim’s tenure coming to an end at the end of the season the Burgh assistant admits he will savour his final few games in charge. With the club now confined to the relegation spots himself and George Walker have no pressure in their remaining games and McKim believes he will enjoy the experience.

He added: “I’ll just savour the moment.

“The boys and ourselves have no pressure on us any more and we can just enjoy our final few games.

“I’ll just try and enjoy the run in as much as I possibly can and hopefully we can pick up a few points along the way.”
