JOHNSTONE Burgh boss Dave Brolly insists he can’t wait for the season to get started — starting this weekend with the Johnstone Burgh tournament.

The Burgh will take on Thorn Athletic, Benburb and Troon at Keanie Park in games played over Saturday and Sunday, and Brolly admitted he is excited by the prospect of leading his new look side out alongside co-manager Colin Smith.

He said: “With the players we have got it is an exciting time to be a part of the Burgh, Saturday will be our first game in charge and I am really looking forward to getting going.

“I sense that with the players we have that this season will be a lot different to last. We want to win promotion this season and with three promotion places up for grabs then I don’t see why we can’t go on and do it.” Plans are already well underway for the new season and they have boosted in the ranks by the signings of central midfielder Alan Thomson and also Ross Mackie, a six foot seven striker previously of Blantyre.

And, Brolly insisted he has been impressed by the standard of the performances in training since he took over, adding: “The boys have been working really hard and they can’t wait to get playing, it is like a breath of fresh air, “We have a lot of guys up training and we are maybe looking to add a few more to the squad — a few guys have showed up very well in the past few weeks.”
