FOUR clubs will battle it out this Saturday (August 9) in the Olivia McMillan Memorial Tournament to raise funds for the work of the Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.

Thorn Athletic will host the four-team competition involving Arkleston Athletic, Glentyan Thistle and Jamestown Amateurs at the McMaster Centre and the bottom of Thomas Shanks Park.

Olivia McMillan, daughter of organiser and secretary of Thorn’s Paisley and District team Derrick McMillan, suffered from problems related to Group B streptococcal meningitis and tragically died three years ago aged just five.

And Derrick is hoping that plenty of people will come out and support the event. He said: “CHAS is an organisation that’s very close to my heart after the wonderful care and support they provided to Olivia.

“The staff are fantastic and we want to do everything we can to ensure that this service can be provided to other families who may rely on them in the months and years ahead.

“I’m involved with local football and staging the memorial tournament is a good way of remembering Olivia and also doing worthwhile work to help support a truly great organisation.” The fundraiser will kick-off at 1pm and runs until 4pm with hour-long matches taking place between the competing teams to see who will win the coveted memorial trophy.
