RENFREW boss Colin Clark branded his side ‘ruthless’ after witnessing their stunning 4-1 victory over Larkhall Thistle.

Goals from Jamie Benton, Scott Arthur and Daryl Boyd set ‘Frew on their way following an indifferent pre season campaign and Clark admitted he was delighted with the performance his side put on.

He said: “There were absolutely no failures out on there on Saturday and I am so proud of the way the boys played.

“They defended resolutely and were ruthless in front of goal in the first half and that was the difference between the sides.

“We thoroughly deserved the victory and it could have been more goals had it not been for some good goal keeping and a couple of wasteful finishes.

“It is not very often I can’t name a man of match so that is testament to the way that everybody played.” ‘Frew shocked their opponents by quickly going into a three goal first half lead at Gasworks Park. Following the match Clark insisted he always knew that there was a good performance in the squad and hopes they can continue that into the coming weeks, starting this Saturday away to St Anthony’s.

He added: “We dominated about 80 per cent of the match and we know we now have to build upon that.

“I didn’t really know what to expect as we haven’t had the chance to field our strongest side for a number of weeks due to holidays and work commitments but it all seemed to click on the day.

“I always thought we had that potential and now we need to try and replicate that against the Ants on Saturday.

“They are a good side so we will have to be at the top of our game if we are to pick up a positive result.” A summer of comings and goings has seen a host of new players arriving at the club.

One position that looks to have been strengthened is the goalkeeping ranks and Clark admitted he is delighted with his summer acquisitions.

He said: “We have brought in Dale Burgess and Mark Baird in goal and if pressed I probably couldn’t pick between the pair.

“It was a bit of a trouble position last year but I would be more than comfortable to put either of them into the starting line up.

“Dale started on Saturday as Mark was on holiday but that isn’t to say I wouldn’t put Mark in — they have both done really well in the games that they have played.”
