RENFREW boss Colin Clark praised his side’s winning mentality as they battled back from a goal down to defeat St Anthony’s on Saturday.

‘Frew looked to be heading to their first defeat of the season before two goals in the final 10 minutes saw them stage a monumental fightback.

Jamie Benton’s header combined with Scott Arthur’s last minute penalty proved to be the decisive efforts as Clark and Martin Ferry’s side made it two wins on the bounce.

And Clark admitted he was delighted with the way Renfrew rolled up their sleeves and got on with the task at hand.

He said: “To be fair, I couldn’t ask for a better start to the season.

“I would say we were the better side an we created a number of chances which we probably could have scored.

“Sometimes that is just the way that football is but the boys dug deep and got their rewards for their efforts as they managed to get the job done.

“It would be fair to say we didn’t play as well as we did last week but we managed to win and the result is the most important thing at the end of the day.” The win sees Renfrew join Vale of Clyde, Dunipace, Lesmahagow and Blantyre Vics making an unbeaten start to the season.

This campaign is the first Renfrew have played in the Central League First since Clark and Ferry have been in charge and whilst it is new to them in a managerial role, Clark insisted he was more than prepared for what to expect from the division.

He added: “Obviously the start of this season seen us drop down the league but it is not the first time I have experienced it I played in it a number of years ago.

“These leagues don’t really change, what the players don’t have in technical ability they more than make up for in hard work and graft.

“We are under no illusions that this isn’t a difficult league and we know we will have to be at our best and draw on the experience we have to be successful.”
