THORN ATHLETIC 2006’s are on red alert after a Johnstone businessman provided them with an injection of funding to buy new strips.

Kevin Kerr, who owns painting and decorating business KK Decor Ltd, backed the team for glory after kitting them out with an impressive new red and white Adidas kit.

The Paisley, Johnstone and District side have been coming on in leaps and bounds under the stewardship of their coaches Steven McKnight, Tommy Graham and Lloyd Kinnaird.

Now they are looking to build on that after Mr Kerr stepped to support them with new teamwear.

And coach McKnight said: “At Thorn Athletic we fully realise the value of the local business community and working in partnership. Thankfully we have companies like KK Decor in the area that appreciate and support the kids.

“It’s great to have Kevin’s company on board and the children are delighted with the strips. They will wear them proudly wherever they go around Renfrewshire.” The team plays every Sunday in Paisley and train during the week in the Johnstone and Linwood area.

Mr Kerr added: “It’s great to be able to put something back into the community and support the good work the coaches have done to develop the players.

“The running costs these days can be a significant burden on teams and by helping them in this way I hope it will allow them to invest in other areas which also benefit the kids.” Thorn Athletic is a growing club in the area and we are always looking at innovative ways to work in partnership with the local business community.

If you run a business, company or organisation that would like to put something back into grassroots football and perhaps work in partnership with the club then Thorn Athletic would be interested in hearing from you.

Thorn have both youth and adult teams and have a rage of ideas of how to develop ideas. Please contact Mark McGee at mark.mcgee28@gmail.com
