The diggers moved in on Monday morning following a long drawn out process between contractors, landowners and the club. However, everything is now signed and sealed.

The club vacated their former Western Park home following a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Cumbernauld United in May and have since had to make the short trip up the M8 to Johnstone Burgh’s Keanie Park to play their ‘home’ games.

The idea of a new ground has been mooted for over 20 years — and current boss Martin Ferry admits it seems like it has been going on forever — he said: “I signed for the club in 1982 and it was mentioned back then.

“I am delighted that all is sorted and it is an exciting time to be at the club. At times it looked like a pipe dream and it was always in the background so it is great news.

“I’m delighted for everybody and the committee — at times it seemed it wouldn’t happen.” Things certainly seem to be on the ascendancy at Renfrew Juniors. With the club sitting third in the Central District First Division following a whirlwind start to the league season — and a new ground been finalised — the future of the club looks to be safeguarded.

A club statement read: “Renfrew FC Committee are delighted to announce that construction of our new ground will begin week commencing November 10 2014 at Blythswood Estate, Renfrew. The anticipated completion date of the park and clubhouse will be end of February 2015.

“Planning of a new ground has been many years in the making, and over the past year in particular we have worked hard to reach this point. We are delighted to say during that time, our Junior team has affiliated with Youth and Ladies teams who now play under the Renfrew Football Club name.

“We look forward to our future as a community club with all teams contributing to make it a success. At completion we will have a secure facility with 3G pitch, floodlights, a covered terrace area with modern changing and hospitality areas.

“We look forward to welcoming members and supporters alike to the new ground in spring 2015, and to a new era of football in Renfrew.”
